MYANMAR authorities deported 206 foreign nationals who illegally entered the country, while another 238 individuals were detained for further investigation.
Among those deported, 176 were from the Philippines, 24 were from Malaysia, four were from Nepal, and two were from Cambodia. These individuals entered Myanmar through illegal border routes, particularly in Myawady, Kayin State, after transiting through neighbouring countries, including Thailand. Many were found to be involved in illegal online gambling operations, online fraud schemes and other criminal activities.
The deportation process took place via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge No 2, with Myanmar officials coordinating with representatives from the respective embassies. Myanmar authorities officially handed the deportees the necessary legal documents to ensure their smooth repatriation.
On the same day, authorities in Myawady and the surrounding areas detained another 238 foreign nationals who illegally entered the country through unofficial routes. Between 30 January and 25 March 2025, a total of 8,670 illegal immigrants were identified and detained in Myanmar. Of this number, 5,406 individuals have already been deported through Thailand to their respective countries, while arrangements are being made to deport the remaining 3,264 individuals. These individuals are currently under detention while awaiting repatriation.
The Myanmar government takes strict action against illegal online fraud and scam operations, particularly in border areas. Authorities are collaborating with neighbouring countries and international organizations to crack down on illegal online gambling networks and financial fraud, ensuring effective investigations and legal actions against those involved.
