THE Chinese government will provide an extra 1 billion yuan in emergency humanitarian assistance to Myanmar, according to Mr Li Min, spokesperson for the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

This latest round of aid will include essential supplies such as fuel, plank houses, surgical units, medicines and vaccines. Besides, China plans to dispatch medical teams to assist with healthcare and disease prevention efforts in the disaster-affected regions.

The support package also includes the deployment of disaster assessment teams to conduct field inspections in the earthquake-hit areas. These teams will help design and implement recovery and disaster risk reduction plans tailored to local needs.

Moreover, China will send cultural heritage and infrastructure inspection teams to assess damage to ancient cultural relics and buildings. These experts will carry out structural evaluations, stability testing and restoration work to preserve and rehabilitate affected sites.
