THE government is actively inspecting damages in earthquake-stricken areas and is carrying out timely rescue and relief efforts. At the same time, international humanitarian aid continues to arrive in Myanmar. Depending on the contributing countries, rescue teams, medical staff including doctors and nurses, as well as humanitarian supplies and medicines arrive in Myanmar daily.
An aircraft from Air China, carrying humanitarian aid from the People’s Republic of China arrived again at Yangon International Airport yesterday afternoon. The cargo included 14,562 packages weighing 90,893 kilogrammes consisting of mosquito nets, tarpaulins, household items and foodstuffs. Upon arrival, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Mr Ou Yang Daobing, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar and other officials welcomed the delivery.
A Royal Brunei Armed Forces aircraft carrying aid from Brunei arrived at Yangon International Airport at 3 pm yesterday. It brought a total of 1,080 items weighing 2,749 kilogrammes, including solar lamps, blankets, sleeping mats and tarpaulins. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, ministers of the regional government and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement welcomed the arrival.
Tatmadaw personnel, Yangon City Development Committee staff, and local logistic teams loaded the relief items onto vehicles. Under the supervision of the Yangon Region government, the items were then transported onward to Nay Pyi Taw for further distribution to the quake-hit areas.
