Under the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, joint inspection teams led by the Customs Department are taking effective action against illegal trade under the law. A Myanmar national arriving from Malaysia on flight 8M 504/SF-3581 was found carrying foodstuffs without valid supporting documents, valued at approximately K2.8 million at Yangon International Airport on 14 April 2025. Similarly, another Myanmar national arriving from Thailand on the same flight number (8M 504/SF-3581) was found carrying one type of commercial item without valid documentation, with an estimated value of K10 million at the same airport on 17 April 2025. The total value of the two seizures amounted to K12.8 million. Authorities are taking action per Customs procedures.

Supervised by the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force, a combined team inspected Natlu Htaikpan Ward, Monywa, on 18 April 2025. The team seized one unlicensed Hijet, estimated to be worth K5 million. Legal action is being taken under the Import and Export Law.

In total, three separate cases involving the seizure of goods and an unregistered vehicle, valued at approximately K17.8 million, were recorded on 14, 17 and 18 April 2025. Such illegal imports can reduce the competitiveness of legitimate traders and cause significant revenue losses to the State. As a result, relevant authorities will intensify inspections and enforcement measures to prevent illegal import activities.
