Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing yesterday morning inspected the collapse of Inwa Bridge in Sagaing, the loss and damage to Sagaing in the event of the earthquake and the ongoing rehabilitation process, and fulfilled the requirements.
In inspecting the collapsed Inwa Bridge of Sagaing, the Senior General and party heard reports on efforts to remove the iron frames of the bridge by officials.
In his response, the Senior General gave guidance to expedite the removal of iron frames from the fourth span and the fifth span of the bridge in the main waterway before monsoon, and efforts to open the upstream and downstream waterways.
The Senior General and party inspected the clearing of debris at Yadana Zedi Hsinmyashin Pagoda damaged by the earthquake and gave necessary guidance to officials who submitted the work reports.
At No 1 Basic Education High School, the Senior General inspected accommodation for quake-affected people at the temporary relief camp and the loss and damage to the school buildings. In response to the report of officials, the Senior General urged them to supervise the systematic repair of school buildings to be completed before opening of schools. He noted that if not, the dangerous school buildings must be dissolved systematically and left necessary instructions.
On arrival at Sagaing General Hospital, the Senior General viewed round medical treatment for members of the Sangha, nuns and residents who sustained injuries in the earthquake at the temporary hospital and necessary healthcare services. The Senior General comforted patients and presented financial support and foodstuff for the injured.
The Senior General and party proceeded to the site where a temporary hospital is under construction and cordially greeted medical teams from Malaysia which take positions at the 700th-anniversary sports ground in Parami Ward to provide healthcare services to the quake-affected people and spoke words of appreciation.
After visiting the temporary hospital, the Senior General presented flower baskets for the medical teams of Malaysia through the team leader who returned an emblem of the Malaysian medical team to the Senior General.
Accompanied by his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, the Senior General went to Sitagu Vipassana Monastery and paid homage to State Ovadacariya 16th Shwegyin Nikaya Sangharaja Chancellor of Sitagu International Buddhist Academies Abhidhaja Maharatthaguru Abhidhaja Aggahama Saddhammajotika Dr Bhaddanta Nyanissara. The Senior General offered K20 million donated by his family and 1,500 tonnes of cement donated by the families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) for using them in the maintenance of stupas and temples damaged by the earthquake. Moreover, they all shared merits gained from donations dedicated to members of the Sangha, nuns and people who lost lives in the earthquake.
He viewed the clearing of debris at SoonOo Ponnyashin Pagoda and the renovation of Mahazedi Pagoda in Yaingtan Ward and presented cash awards to Tatmadaw members, Myanmar Police Force members and firefighters who participated in the removal of debris.
The Senior General and his wife paid homage to Shwekyetkya Pagoda damaged by the earthquake in Amarapura Township. The Senior General instructed officials to repair the pagoda in its original state.
He also viewed round loss and damage to the strand road by car.
At Maha Muni Buddha Image, the Senior General inspected the renovation of damaged stairways and religious buildings and urged officials to repair these structures before monsoon and systematically preserve them as invaluable ancient heritage.
At Maha Lawkamarazein Pagoda in Mandalay, the Senior General viewed a damaged ancient door and stone inscription chambers. The door is 17 feet and four inches high and five feet and two inches wide weighing 0.85 tonne.
He gave guidance to officials to install the ancient door and renovate the stone inscription chambers.
