PDF terrorists and insurgents launched attacks with heavy weapons in Kawkareik Township about 2,500 metres southwest of the town at 4:30 pm on 18 April. Shells fell into the Taungpaw monastery compound in Ward 4 and exploded near the west archway of the Mahamuni Wuttgyi Pagoda in the monastery compound, resulting in damage to the ceiling and walls.

Security forces conducted security measures near the town.
