According to the Illegal Trade Eradication Leading Committee, effective measures are being taken in accordance with the law to prevent and take action against illegal trading activities.

On 20 April, combined inspection teams, managed by the Customs Department, conducted inspections and, near Aung Soe Moe Petrol Station in Nyaungkhashay Village, intercepted two vehicles travelling from Mawlamyine to Yangon. The vehicles were found to be carrying five types of industrial goods and five types of consumer goods without any official documentation (estimated value of K79.738 million). Moreover, one Yutong bus, one Volvo tractor head, and one trailer (estimated value of K190 million), used for transporting the items, were also seized. Action is being taken in accordance with customs procedures.

Similarly, under the management of the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force, combined inspection teams carried out operations in Bago, Toungoo and Thayawady districts. As a result, illegal timber comprising 1.63 tonnes of teak, 1.178 tonnes of hardwood, and 0.648 tonne of other timber — with a total estimated value of K1.9 million — was seized. Legal action is being taken in accordance with the Forest Law.

In total, on 20 April, seven cases of illegal activity were recorded, with seizures amounting to an estimated value of K271.64 million.
