IN PyinOoLwin, Taunggyi and Kalaw, visitor arrival was large during the Thingyan holidays and hasn’t stopped until now, according to tour operators.

Those who want to take a break avoided travelling in the Thingyan period, but they have just started their vacation after Thingyan, said a travel planner.

“These destinations were packed with many visitors during the Thingyan period. But some don’t like travelling among the crowd, so they start their vacation after Thingyan. That is why the visitor arrival hasn’t stopped until now,” he said.

A visitor who travelled to PyinOoLwin from Yangon during Thingyan said he thought the visitor arrival would decrease due to the earthquake. Still, the town was thronged with visitors as usual.

Visitor arrivals to beaches such as Ngwehsaung and Saleaintan, which are located within a short distance of Yangon and nearby resorts, also increased during Thingyan. As overseas trips, local visitors went to Thailand, Vietnam and Bodh Gaya.
