Tatmadaw carried out the first day of its ninth liver transplant procedure yesterday at the Special Treatment Centre of the Defence Services General Hospital (1,000-bed) in Mingaladon Township. The transplant was jointly performed by the Tatmadaw’s liver transplant team and a team from India. The procedure involved transplanting a liver from donor Daw Myo Myo Myat to recipient Daw Khin Oo Kyi.

Liver extraction from the donor began at 9 am, and the transplant to the recipient was completed around 3:30 pm, taking approximately nine hours in total. Both the donor and the recipient are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving continued care in the intensive care unit from experienced specialists, doctors and nurses.

Tatmadaw personnel observed the procedure and further liver transplants are scheduled for 26 and 27 April. Tatmadaw’s first liver transplants were successfully conducted on 27 and 28 September 2022 for two patients. In 2023, three rounds of transplants were performed for nine patients and the same was achieved in 2024. So far in 2025, three patients have undergone successful liver transplants. The current ninth round will also cover three patients.
