Senior General Min Aung Hlaing highlighted that if Tatmadaw members and families know history of the country correctly, they will also gain an understanding of Tatmadaw’s role and position within the national political landscape.
State Security and Peace Commission Chairman and Defence Services Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met Tatmadaw members and families from relevant stations under the Yangon Command yesterday morning.
At the meeting, the Senior General explained that there is a historical record of the country’s struggle for independence and, after achieving independence, Tatmadaw’s efforts to suppress internal insurgencies. If Tatmadaw members and families know this history correctly, they will also gain an understanding of Tatmadaw’s role and position within the national political landscape.
He continued that Tatmadaw has consistently prioritized and worked to ensure non-disintegration of the union, non-disintegration of national solidarity and perpetuation of sovereignty in successive eras, governments, and political systems.
The Senior General retold that although the first democratic government led by President U Thein Sein carried out all possible efforts for national development, there was a lack of proper alignment with democratic practices. Moreover, certain organizations incited tensions by stirring up past events that had occurred in the country. As a lesson, grievances arising during the period of the socialist system were carried over and mixed with the present during the democratic period, resulting in oppositional actions.
He added that in the 2015 multiparty democratic election, the NLD party won and assumed the responsibilities of the State as the second democratic government. While the public had high expectations of them during their tenure, weaknesses in administrative experience and Salient points from the speech delivered by the Senior General at the meeting with Tatmadaw members and families actions opposing some policies of the previous government led to economic shortcomings.
With regard to the electoral process, the Senior General remarked that since elections are the most important aspect of the democratic system, the government carried out the necessary preparations, including the 2024 population and household census, to ensure that a multiparty democratic election could be successfully held.
He underlined that in the coming weeks, everyone must work together to ensure the successful conduct of a free and fair multiparty democratic general election. When casting votes, it is necessary to choose the candidates who can genuinely act in the best interests of the nation and its regions, who possess political, administrative, economic, security, and rule-oflaw perspectives, who can cooperate closely with Tatmadaw, which has remained strong and steadfast since independence, and who can uphold Our Three Main National Causes. Voters must select candidates who are knowledgeable about the law and capable of fulfilling these duties.
In noting the qualification of candidates, he underscored that it is necessary to be able to amend or repeal laws that could harm the nation’s interests in accordance with the law. To carry out legislative work properly, one must know legal principles. Therefore, Hluttaw representatives to serve at the legislative body must possess the appropriate level of education.
Regarding the economy, the Senior General recounted that there were economic sanctions, and foreign assistance decreased significantly during the current government’s tenure. In addition, the government had to take measures to repay outstanding debts owed to foreign countries. Efforts were also made to increase domestic production and enable exports abroad.
He expressed his anticipation that if agricultural activities achieve their target yield per acre, more agricultural products can be exported abroad, potentially generating an additional approximately US$8 billion in revenue.
The Senior General pointed out that as Tatmadaw is a strong organization responsible for national defence, it must always be “fit for fight”. Individually, members need to maintain good health, possess courage and resilience, and have the necessary skills.
Therefore, he highlighted that daily duties and routines must be carried out properly to ensure that, as Tatmadaw, combat strength and capability remain at a high and effective level for the defence of the nation.
The Senior General unveiled that the State has many tasks that must be carried out moving forward. Everyone has successfully passed the first page, and after the completion of the election, they have properly carried out the second page of the State. In the future, to build a prosperous and well-developed nation, everyone must continue to work together and participate in these efforts.
The Senior General asked about the requirements of the Tatmadaw members and officers and attended to their needs.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla presented foodstuffs for Tatmadaw members and families to the commander and cash awards for the station Maternal and Child Welfare Association to the wife of the commander.
After the meeting, the Senior General, his wife and party cordially greeted the Tatmadaw members and families.
Also, present at the meeting were Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Htein Win and his wife, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Tun Aung and his wife, senior Tatmadaw officers of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives and the commander of Yangon Command.
