A handover ceremony for equipment donated by the Republic of India to the Myanmar Engineering Council for use in post-earthquake building inspections was held yesterday at the Function Hall of the Myanmar Engineering Federation in Hlaing Township, Yangon.
President U Khin Maung Htay of the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies first delivered a welcome address, followed by remarks from the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr Abhay Thakur.
Central Executive Committee Member U San Kyu then presented an explanation on the technical use of the donated equipment for building inspections. The equipment and related documents were then formally handed over by the Indian Ambassador to the President of the Myanmar Engineering Societies. The ceremony concluded with closing remarks by Chairman U Nyunt Maung San of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee.
Speaking at the event, U Khin Maung Htwe said, “The donated items were transported from India to Yangon Port through arrangements made by the Embassy and arrived at our office on 24 March. A total of 11 types of equipment were donated, valued at over 20 million Indian rupees, which is equivalent to more than one billion kyats. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Government and the people of India, the Ambassador, and all officials from the Embassy for this meaningful contribution. Such support not only reflects goodwill but also strengthens the friendship and long-term partnership between Myanmar and India.”
The donated machinery and equipment include a Ground Penetrating Radar, a tablet/iPad equipped with a LiDAR scanner, a levelling laser, a digital spirit level (1 metre), a vernier calliper, a distance laser meter (maximum range), a rebound hammer for testing concrete strength, a total station, computers, and related accessories. These tools can be used for assessing buildings both before and after disasters. — MNA/MKKS
