The Second Amyotha Hluttaw convened its 1st day meeting of 15th regular session yesterday, with an opening speech of Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, urging the MPs to perform the works of respective committees in line with laws, bylaws and regulations and the requirements of checks and balances on administrative and legislative estates, in addition to regular functions of the Hluttaw.

MP Dr Win Myint from Bago Region constituency 11 asked for promoting a basic education middle(branch) school to a middle school level in Kantharyar Village of Minhla Township.

Deputy Minister for Education U Win Maw Tun replied that it is not included in the prioritized plan of the ministry in this year as the school has only 144 children, and a nearest high school (branch) is located within one-mile distance from the village.

MP U Bwe Khein from Chin State constituency 3 asked for promoting a basic education upper primary school to a middle school (branch) in Thantlang Township.

The Deputy Minister replied that it is not included in the prioritized plan for this academic year as the school has only 127 children and it is located only in a 6-furlong distance from a high school.

MP U Kyaw Kyaw Win from Rakhine State constituency 8 asked about upgrading a basic education primary school (branch) to a primary school in Aungtharyar village in Maungtaw Township, and construction of a two-storey building at the Mawrawadi Middle School.

The Deputy Minister answered that although the school has only 55 primary school children, it will be allowed for promotion in 2020-2021 academic year, and also agreed on construction of a new school building.

MP U Myint Naing from Rakhine State constituency 5 asked about 2020 matriculation exam for the students who are away from Kyauktaw Township for some reasons and about certificates for these external students; MP U Htein Win from Ayeyawady Region constituency 4 about removal of living quarters of Township Fire Services Department from the land of No 5 Basic Middle School.

The Deputy Minister also replied to the questions.

Amyotha Hluttaw Bill Committee member Daw Kyein Ngei Mun read out the committee’s report on amending bill for Myanmar Medical Council Law, sent by the Pyithu Hluttaw with recommendations.

MP U Aung Thein from Bago Region constituency 12 submitted a bill for lawyer’s council and advocates to the Amyotha Hluttaw for discussions, and MP U Thein Lwin from Kachin State constituency 10 expressed his support on the bill.

The Hluttaw also unanimously decided to discuss the bill which will be handled by its bill committee.

The Amyotha Hluttaw will convene its second day meeting on 30 January.
