1. The Ministry of Health and Sports is closely monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak and spread in China and 89 countries around the world at the international gateways, at the community-based and public hospitals-based as well as in cooperation with the private hospitals.
2. In this regard,
(a) A 35-year-old male, who is residing in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, came back to Myanmar from China on 5 March. He suffered fever and cough. So he went to Wetlet Township Hospital on 6 March. He was referred to the Mandalay Kandawnadi Hospital. He is now under quarantine and laboratory test is also underway.
(b) A 41-year-old male, who is residing in Minhla Township, Magwe Region, arrived back in Myanmar from China on 19 February. He had a fever, cough, muscle pain, and shortness of breath on 4 March. He went to Linkel Station Hospital in Minhla Township. He is now under quarantine and laboratory test is underway. He suffered no severe respiratory symptoms.
(c) A 37-year-old male from Yedashay Township in Bago Region, who have suffered Hepatitis during his stay in Thailand one month ago, arrived back in Yedashay through Myawady checkpoint on 5 March. He went to Yedashay Township Hospital on that same day. Although he was not found with fever and any severe respiratory symptoms he was put under quarantine for a further laboratory test.
(d) A 71-year-old male, who are residing in Maha Aungmyay Township, Mandalay Region, suffered coughing on 22 February. Shortness of breath added to him on 6 March. He went to the Mandalay General Hospital on 7 March. Although he had no travel history to the infectious regions and he was suffering severe respiratory symptoms he was referred to the Kandawnadi Hospital. He is now under quarantine and laboratory test is underway.
(e) A 30-year-old male, who is residing in Thakayta Township in Yangon Region, arrived back in Myanmar from Japan on 27 February. He was suffering hypertension and its consequent kidney problems. He was under treatment for the kidney in Japan on 24 July 2019. While he was again under treatment for the kidney at the Kanthayar Hospital in Yangon on 28 February he started to suffer fever and cough. He was then referred to the Waibargi Specialist Hospital. He is now put under quarantine and laboratory test is underway. He had no severe respiratory symptoms.
(f) A 13-year-old boy, who is living in Htantabin Township, Yangon Region, started suffering fever and cough on 26 February and went to the Insein General Hospital. Although he had no background history of travelling to the infectious regions but due to his severe respiratory problems he was put under quarantine on 6 March. Laboratory results on 7 March indicated that he was negative for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
3. Six patients are now under quarantine and treatment at respective hospitals as of 7 March at 6:00 pm.
4. Even though there are no laboratory-test-confirmed cases in Myanmar, control and prevention measures are being undertaken with maximized momentum. Owing to the soaring outbreak and spread of COVID-19 virus in China and 89 countries around the world, the public is instructed to follow the MoHS’s health information guidelines strictly.
