THE central committee on establishing Myanmar-China Border Economic Cooperation Zone held its fifth coordination meeting at the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the meeting, Union Minister for Commerce Dr Than Myint urged the participants of the meeting to discuss nominating eligible members for the joint coordination committee, joint-implementation committee and joint management committee between the two countries and to give suggestions for speeding up the implementation of tasks under the Memorandum of Understanding for the Muse-Shweli Border Economic Cooperation Zone.
Afterwards, Kachin State Chief Minister Dr Khet Aung, in his capacity as the vice chairman of the central committee, reported on progress on establishing the Myitkyina Economic Zone, a trade zone located 13 km from Waingmaw, and Kampaikti Economic Development Zone.
Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo, in his capacity as the Secretary of the central committee, reported on measures to be taken following the MoU signed between Myanmar and China on 18 January for border economic cooperation zone; Director General of the Department of Trade U Min Min on nomination for members of the bilateral joint committees.
