Union Election Commission Chairman U Than Soe received a delegation, led by Belarusian Central Election Commission Deputy Chairman Mr Alexei Bashan, in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

The Belarusian CEC Deputy Chairman expressed support for the election, which plays a key role in Myanmar, gratitude for the chance to observe the election, and gave a greeting speech.
The UEC Chairman warmly welcomed the delegation to visit and observe the election with full support. He explained that the friendly diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Belarus have existed for 26 years since 1999.

He also clarified the preparations being made to successfully hold the election, the arrangements to be implemented during the election, measures taken to ensure that voters can cast their votes safely, easily, and accurately using the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM), efforts to conduct the election process in pursuit of democratic standards to ensure a free and fair election trusted by the public, and cooperation prospects through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the election commissions of the two countries regarding election-related activities.

Both sides also exchanged views on the electoral process of Belarus, the observation process for the election and proper measures to ensure a free and fair election. They also had a documentary photo taken together with attendees, and exchanged gifts.

Also, present at the meeting were Union Election Commission Member U Myo Hlaing and relevant officials of the commission’s office.
