Individuals who participated in films released in 2024, as well as those likely to be nominated for the Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards, should not be appointed to the awards evaluation panel from the outset, said Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn in his remarks at a coordination meeting for the successful organization of the 2024 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Award ceremony, held yesterday at the Motion Pictures Promotion Branch of the Department of Information and Public Relations in Bahan Township, Yangon.

The Union minister also warned that assigning such individuals to the evaluation committee could lead to unintended bias or misjudgments, and stated that the Ministry of Information, together with the Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization (MMPO), will take responsibility for organizing the upcoming 2024 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Award Ceremony, ensuring its successful execution with a strong sense of duty and commitment.

He stated that the 2024 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Award Ceremony is scheduled to be held in Nay Pyi Taw in February 2025. He emphasized that, following the tradition of previous years, the event should be organized in a formal and dignified manner, with relevant individuals making necessary preparations in advance to ensure its smooth execution, and stressed the importance of forming a transparent and impartial panel to fairly evaluate and select deserving artistes, with committee members chosen based on their qualifications and responsibility.

Furthermore, the Director General of the Department of Information and Public Relations and MMPO Chair U Kyi Soe Tun reviewed the strengths and weaknesses of the previous year’s ceremony, outlined the plans for task delegation and execution for the upcoming event, and the Union Minister for Information ensured the coordination of efforts.
