The first Myanmar-China (Chongqing) Cultural Exchange event, themed “The Art of Connection from Myanmar to Chongqing”, was held at the Chongqing Art Theatre on 14 December 2024. The event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chongqing and the Yuzhong District Government of the People’s Republic of China.

During the ceremony, U Kyaw Zay Yar Lin, Consul General of the Myanmar Consulate in Chongqing, and Mr Lai Liang, Deputy Mayor of Yuzhong District, delivered opening speeches.

Representatives from various government departments attended the event, including Mr Zhang Yongwu, Director-General of the Chongqing Municipal Economic Commission, officials from the Chongqing Foreign Affairs Office, Yuzhong District Foreign Affairs Office, Chongqing Yuzhong Tourism and Culture Committee, and other government agencies. Additionally, representatives from foreign consulates in Chongqing also participated in the event.

At the cultural event, 21 theatrical experts from Myanmar, led by U Pho Chit, Chairman of the Myanmar Theatrical Association, presented a series of Myanmar’s traditional cultural performances.

These included Myanmar traditional puppet shows, Myanmar duet dance, Kyaukse elephant dance, Pyapon Royal Ramayana drama, traditional folk dance, and Myanmar Thingyan dance, all performed to accompaniment of Myanmar’s traditional orchestra.

The Chinese cultural team also participated in the performances, enhancing the cultural exchange between the two nations.
