A Myanmar delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Aung Zeya, arrived at the Yunnan Energy Investment Group Company (YEIG) in Kunming, Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China, on 10 December.
The Vice Chairman and central-level officials clarified the construction of power plants and electricity systems, as well as EV-related businesses, both domestically and in Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar, along with future plans for carbon reduction initiatives. The Deputy Minister then discussed the need for technological research and surveys. Afterwards, they talked about joint research initiatives to further strengthen Myanmar-China friendship on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and exchanged commemorative gifts.
The Deputy Minister visited the famous Dianchi Lake where thousands of migratory birds from Siberia have been hibernating since 1985, arriving each October.
In the afternoon, the delegation toured Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), visiting the electrical engineering department and witnessing advanced research, including AI-powered language translation and robotics. The Deputy Minister engaged in discussions with department heads, expressing interest in the university’s technological advancements.
He also visited the university library and viewed its facilities. The library showcases historical artefacts and features advanced technology.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister congratulated Kunming University of Science and Technology on its 70th anniversary and proposed student and faculty exchange programmes to strengthen cooperation and cultural exchange, particularly in anticipation of the 75th anniversary of Myanmar-China diplomatic relations.
