State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla donated K10 million and clothes worth over K12.6 million for the respect-paying ceremony to doyen literati marking Myanmar Literati Day or Sarsodaw Day organized by the Myanmar Writers Association in Yangon yesterday.

During the event, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn handed over the donations of the Prime Minister and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla to Myanmar Writers Association Chair Alinka Kyaw Swa U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe).

The Ministry of Information donated K2.5 million, the Yangon Region government K27.6 million, the Yangon City Development Committee K3 million, the USDP headquarters K1 million and the Yangon Region USDP K500,000 at the event.

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn, made a speech, highlighting the holding of National Sarsodaw Day since 1306 ME, and it reached 80th in 1386 ME, the focus of the Prime Minister and his wife on literary, and holding of award event for the 2023 National Literary Awards for Lifetime Achievement, National Literary Award and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Award at national-level marking the 75th anniversary of National Literary Award.

He then mentioned the role of great writers and holding respect-paying events for eminent literati reaching their 37th and appreciated that culture.

After the ceremonial procedures, the Union minister and attendees paid respect to the doyen literati and presented cash and items.

State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla donated K10 million and men’s wear for 241 males worth K10,700,400, and women’s wear for 35 females worth K1,960,000, totalling K12,660,400 for the event.

At noon, the Union minister attended the event to present honoraium to literary scholars and experts for the National Literature Selection Committee and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Award Selection Committee at the Printing and Publishing Department in Yangon.

During the event, the Union minister urged leading literary scholars to focus on youths to lead them to the right way with genuine literature.

Afterwards, distinguished literary figures discussed proper ways to develop the literature and the country.
