EMPHASIS must be placed on the long-term maintenance of roads, said Deputy Minister for Construction U Win Pe on his inspection tour of progress in upgrading Pathein-Shawpya-Chaungtha Road yesterday morning.

Together with Ayeyawady Region Minister for Transport U Nay Myo Aung, the deputy minister inspected the road upgrading works.

Director (Civil) U Yan Naing Zaw of the Ayeyawady Region Highways Department and representatives from Oriental Highway Company Limited, Max Highway Company Limited and Shwe Taung Company Limited explained the progress of the road works. The Deputy Minister stressed the need for proper maintenance to ensure the roads last longer, the use of high-quality construction materials, and the timely arrival of heavy machinery at work sites.

The inspection covered key sections of the road, including a 40-foot earthen embankment under construction between mileposts 22/2 and 22/3, a bypass project at milepost 26/5, and another 40-foot earthen embankment between mileposts 30/4 and 30/6. The Deputy Minister looked into concrete paving on Kyetthunkwin (Thabaung)-Magyeezin Road, which is being managed by the Ayeyawady Region Highways Department.
