A total of 32 members of the AA and PDF groups have returned to the legal fold with weapons and ammunition after accepting the government’s and Tatmadaw’s peace programme, according to official reports.

The group comprised 20 AA members and 12 PDF members from Rakhine State, Chin State, Ayeyawady Region and Yangon Region. They were formally welcomed at a ceremony held at Ayeyawady Hall of the SouthWest Command before being reunited with their parents or guardians.

During the ceremony, the returnees surrendered 13 firearms, including MA-1, MA-2, BA-63, Type-81, M-22, LM16 and AK-47 rifles, along with six hand grenades, 456 rounds of ammunition and 20 magazines.

Authorities provided a total of K76.4 million in incentives, including rewards for surrendered weapons and financial assistance for the returnees, before the handover to their families.

Officials said those wishing to return under the peace programme could contact their nearest military or police station, where they would receive assistance and incentives in accordance with the programme.
