UNION Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win visited, yesterday, a kidney donor and acceptor (patient) involved in the 58th kidney transplant operation that was successfully performed on 23 August at Yangon Speciality Hospital (500-bed).
The Union minister said words of encouragement and provided cash assistance to both Daw Khine Nandar Aung, the donor and U Tin Min Htike, the patient who received a kidney transplant.
The Union minister then met the medical superintendent and kidney and liver transplant specialists of the Yangon Speciality Hospital (500-bed) to discuss the matters relating to easing barriers for transplant patients, conducting transplant treatments broader than before, making arrangements for a smoother donation process between the donors and the patients, to resume liver transplant treatments and to transfer transplant treatment technologies to new generation doctors. Under the close supervision of professors and specialists, the patient who received a kidney transplant is making progress, and the kidney donor, who became healthy after his donation, was released from the hospital on 30 August.
The Union minister’s visit to the Department of Medical Research in Yangon included discussions with the Myanmar Dental Council about upholding ethical standards among dentists. Myanmar Medical Council officials also talked about preparations for the upcoming Myanmar Dental Conference 2023, with input from various healthcare leaders, including Chairman Prof Dr Khin Maung Aye, President Prof Dr Ne Win, and Chairman Prof Dr Paing Soe. Several departmental heads, such as Dr Myat Wunna Soe, Dr Tin Tun, Prof Dr Zaw Than Tun, Dr Su Su Dwe, and Prof Dr Khin Zaw, presented updates on their committees’ progress. Rectors from the University of Dental Medicine (Yangon) and the University of Dental Medicine (Mandalay), as well as professors and Medical Services Department directors, discussed relevant topics before the Union minister concluded the meeting.
The Myanmar Dental Conference 2023 is set for 3-4 November, with dentists and medical professionals at home and abroad presenting papers. Attendees will include dental staff, practitioners in private clinics, dental nurses, dental technicians, and specialists from partner organizations, fostering valuable discussions.
