A Myanmar delegation, headed by LtGen Ni Lin Aung, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Chief of Myanmar Police Force CCDAC secretary attended the 30th Anniversary of the Mekong MoU on Drug Control in Beijing, China, on 5-6 September. They participated in discussions with Mr Xu Datong, Vice-Minister of Public Security of China, on enhancing information sharing and collaboration to combat drug trafficking, border precursor control, telecommunications fraud, and human trafficking.

On 6 September, they joined the 14th Ministerial Meeting of the Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding on Drug Control in the Greater Mekong Subregion, where leaders from Mekong regions and UNODC were present. During this meeting, the leader of the Myanmar’s delegation addressed the rising issue of synthetic drug production and usage in the Mekong subregion, highlighting their commitment to drug control through various national strategies.

Myanmar pledged to cooperate with countries, organizations, and UNODC in the fight against drugs. The discussion also covered regional drug situations, sub-regional action plans, the Beijing Declaration, China’s proposals to combat synthetic drugs, and plans for Myanmar to host the ministerial meeting in 2025.

After the meeting, delegates visited booths commemorating the 30th anniversary of the MoU and attended a dinner hosted by the Chinese People’s Security Minister. Additionally, another Myanmar delegation, led by Police Brig-Gen Win Naing, discussed sub-regional action plan 12 (2023-2025), the Beijing Declaration, and China’s proposals during the senior ministerial meeting on MoU on drug control on 5 September.
