The ASEAN-China Media and Think Tank Forum was held at the InterContinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

At the forum, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Minister of Communications of Malaysia, the Editor-in-Chief of Xinhua News Agency and the Deputy General Manager of China Communications Construction Company Limited delivered speeches.

The forum was organized with the theme ‘Strengthening ASEAN-China Cooperation’.
The forum was divided into three sessions with the titles: Promoting Civilizational Exchange, Setting an Example for the Global South, Boosting Maritime Silk Road Cooperation, Charting a New Course for Peaceful Development and Harnessing the AI Revolution, Seizing Unprecedented Opportunities.
On the occasion, 250 representatives from over 160 media organizations, think tanks, government departments and enterprises across all ten ASEAN and China were in attendance. From Myanmar, totalling five people including U Thant Kyaw, MISIS Chairman and an MISIS Senior Researcher, U Khin Maung Zaw, Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Press Council, Daw Thida Tin, Director-General of the Media Development Department and an official also attended the forum.
At the third plenary session, Myanmar delegate Daw Thida Tin discussed being aware of identity, civilization, and culture, to be of strength, mutual understanding and respect and resilience to challenges and destructive actions that may be faced by the Global South, to achieve peaceful development among nations via physical and social connectivity and to accelerate momentum on the “Maritime Silk Road” that can provide enhancement of economic and social cooperation in the region. Furthermore, she said Myanmar is strategically important for China’s regional and global development plan including Maritime Silk Road and is also crucial for connecting ASEAN countries with South Asia. Recently, a powerful earthquake that occurred in Myanmar can weaken the pace of Myanmar’s participation in regional development. Nevertheless, the Myanmar government, people and social organizations are working together to ensure the best possible recovery from the natural disaster with all available international assistance. She also added while grabbing the golden opportunities of such advanced technology, it is also needed to be cautious that it can bring negative impacts on every area if it is not effectively handled.
