1. The Ministry of Health and Sports is closely monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19, with conducting surveillance at international gateways and at the hospitals in the forms of people-centered investigation and in coordination with private hospital.
2. From 8 pm 22 February 2020 to 8 pm 23 February 2020, no new case was confirmed for the situation of under investigation.
3. Until 6 pm 23 February 2020, the five persons were kept to monitor for another 48 hours although they were tested negative for COVID-19 at the State/Region hospitals. They were also in good health conditions.
4. The Ministry of Health and Sports could not confirm the disease of COVID-19 in the following cases.
(a) A 41-year old Chinese man from Ruili of Yunnan province, China, arrived in Yangon on 31 January 2020 by a flight. He proceeded to Ye Township on 14 February 2020. After he fell in unconsciousness as he get in a car in Keikkalay village in Ye Township on 22 February 2020, he was taken to the township’ hospital. He was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage, instead of acute respiratory disease. After emergency medical treatments, he died at 11:05 am while preparations were being made to transfer him to the Mawlamyine hospital. His body was taken to Yangon General Hospital to perform an autopsy. It was found that he died of burst of blood vessels caused by hypertension.
(b) On 23 February 2020, a 24-year old man who took a flight from South Korea to Yangon International Airport at 5:40 am claimed on a YBS bus to his apartment that he felt suffering COVID-19. He was handed over to the Healthcare Unite of the Public Health Department at the airport. However, he was not even diagnosed with fever (body temperature was only 35.2 degree centigrade) or other respiratory diseases. However, he was taken to outpatient unit of Waibargi Special Hospital at 8:30 am 23 February 2020 for other medical treatments.
The medical specialists conclude that the man was not tested with symptoms of COVID-19, and was seriously worrying about the disease.
