THE Shwesandaw Pagoda in Pyay township was crowded with residents and pilgrims from different regions on the full moon day of Thadingyut (Abhidhamma Day).

On the evening of Abhidhamma Day, the pagoda board of trustees held the 12th Abhidhamma Day and the pagoda compound was packed with pilgrims and alive with local food stalls, souvenir shops, fruit shops and traditional lantern shops. Moreover, the pilgrims donated water, candle, and flowers while some meditated on the pagoda platforms.

The pagoda was open to the public from 5 am to 9 pm daily. “There was a large crowd of pilgrims. It is a significant day, gazetted holiday and school holiday and so the number of pilgrims is high. There are local pilgrims and others from different regions,” said the pagoda lift operator.

Similarly, the pagodas near the vicinity of Pyay Shwesandaw Pagoda including Hsehtetgyi Pagoda and Shwebontha Muni Pagoda in Pandaung Township west of Ayeyawady River were also packed with pilgrims.
