UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts are being made to combat the illicit trade effectively under the law.

On 27 January, the combined teams impounded three unregistered vehicles (worth K72 million) in Magway, Seikphyu and Pakokku Townships and a Dongfeng truck (worth approximately K15 million) carrying illegal teak weighing 3.589 tonnes (valued at K3.32 million) in Minbu Township. The action was taken under the Export-Import Law and the Forest Law.

Similarly, on 28 January, the combined on-duty teams seized industrial materials worth K24.93 million) without official documents from a container at the Myanmar Industrial Port and a Yutong bus (estimated value of K60 million) carrying foodstuffs (valued at K6.352 million) without official documents at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint. The action was conducted following Customs procedures.

Additionally, the joined teams supervised by Kayin State and Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Forces captured a Pyay truck (estimated value of K25 million) carrying industrial materials and consumer goods (valued at K20 million) without official documents at the Yethaya temporary vehicle checkpoint compound and an unregistered Daihatsu Hijet (worth approximately K6 million) at the Kantalu combined checkpoint in Sagaing Township. The action was taken under the Export-Import Law and Customs procedures.

The combined inspection teams seized a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (estimated value of K30 million) carrying industrial materials (valued at K75 million) without official documents near the detour around Kyaukse and 154.155 tonnes of illegal timbers (valued at about K43 million) in Yamethin and Kyaukse Townships. The action was conducted under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.

About 0.567 tonne of illegal teak (worth K498,900) was seized from a Hino Dutro truck (estimated value of K30 million) on Yangon-Pyay Road in Taikkyi Township and the action was taken under the Forest Law.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 16 arrests on 27 and 28 January, confiscating illegal goods worth approximately K411.14 million.
