THE opening ceremony of the fourth China-ASEAN Health Cooperation Forum (Towards A Health Silk Road) in Nanning, People’s Republic of China, was held yesterday morning through a hybrid method.

At the ceremony, the Peo­ple’s Republic of China vice gov­ernor of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the deputy minister of the National Health Commission of China, Ministers of Health from the ASEAN Mem­ber States, the secretary-gen­eral of the ASEAN, the deputy director-general of the WHO Regional Office for the West­ern Pacific delivered keynote speeches.

At the opening ceremony, Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win delivered a vid­eo keynote speech at the forum on public health from ASEAN member countries and China. He said he was delighted to see the cooperation among the medical professionals in their respective specialities.

“The cooperation of not only the region but also the world to strengthen the health infra­structure will strengthen the re­sponse to public health threats.

Myanmar is trying to pre­vent, control and treat the COVID-19 epidemic, and has re­ceived a lot of medical supplies, including COVID-19 vaccines, from the neighbouring country, the People’s Republic of China,” he added.

If the Health Silk Road can be established and implement­ed through the cooperation of China and ASEAN member countries, health knowledge, in­formation, sharing experiences in real-time, strengthening the public health system and coop­eration in science and technol­ogy will be improved.

Among the many cooper­ation activities between China and Myanmar, one important opportunity is the construction of the Myanmar Centre for Pre­vention and Control of Infectious Diseases, which is currently un­der construction, he said.

China and ASEAN countries have the same goals and efforts have been carried out with good results. He said that he believes that, in the future, more ambi­tious programmes and deeper relations will be built.

After that, officials approved the fourth China-ASEAN Health Cooperation Forum Joint Dec­laration.

Maternal and child health, hospital management, sub-fo­rums such as dental health forums, and forums on the pre­vention and control of infectious diseases will be held from 14 to 16 September on a daily basis, and officials from the Depart­ment of Public Health, will at­tend the forums according to the relevant subjects.
