THE Abhidhamma Day which falls on the full moon day of Thadingyut is one of the significant days in Buddhism.
Buddhist people residing in all parts of the nation took Sabbath, recited Pathana Desana and Parittas, pay homage to older persons and parents and performed meritorious deeds.
Significant religious edifices such as Upattasanti Pagoda, Budh Gaya (Nay Pyi Taw), Maha Thakyaranthi Standing Buddha image, Yanaungmyin Shwelethla Pagoda, Dhatucaya Pagoda, Perpetual Peace Pagoda, Hlaykhwintaung Pagoda, Koekhangyi Pagoda and Kawlayanhnein Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area were thronged with religious associations, local people, service personnel and pilgrims from four corners of the nation today.
“We pay homage to Uppatasanti Pagoda on full moon day of Thadingyut. We prayed for all the people of Myanmar to overcome difficulties and may be physical and mental wellbeing,” said Ma Honey Soe, a pilgrim to Uppatasanti Pagoda.
Pilgrims visited the Yadana white elephant shed in the precinct of the pagoda and religious utensil and souvenir shops.
The parks and public centres such as Ocean Super Center, Junction Center, Nay Pyi Taw Wholesale, the National Landmarks Garden, Safari Park, Ngalaik elephant camp and Mingala Lake were packed with pilgrims and picnickers.
In the evening, residences and religious offices were lit with oil lamps and colourful lightings. Oil lamps were displayed on the terrace of Uppatasanti Pagoda where fireworks were launched in Tabaung ground.
Famous vocalists and the Voice Myanmar performed song entertainments to the audiences. Security personnel took security measures for the people on the full moon day of Thadingyut.
