AN on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department conducted inspections in a bid to curb illicit trade and take effective action under the law.
Officials captured K9,240,000 worth of various bags from a vehicle (approximately K50 million) on Myawady-Hpa-an-Yangon road on 2 November and five commodities including 1,400 PVC face gypsum boards (estimated at K8,219,400) from a container at the Asia World Port Terminal Container Checkpoint on 3 November and 34 goods including 30,080 U forks (estimated value of 50,895,768) without import licences from a container at the Myanmar Industrial Port Terminal Container Checkpoint on 4 November. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, a combined team at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint confiscated K1,797,600 worth of 107 dream beds that were not declared in the Import Declaration (ID) from a vehicle and a trailer (approximately K115,000,000). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Therefore, eight arrests (estimated value of K235,152,768) were made on three consecutive days from 2 to 4 November, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
