OF the 4.4 million tourists who visited Myanmar last year, more than 680,000 travelers headed to Mandalay Region, according to data released by the Mandalay Region Directorate of Hotels and Tourism.
In 2018, Mandalay welcomed 492,097 tourists, while the country received more than 3.5 million visitors, as per data from the department.

THE Union Minister for Health and Sports, Dr Myint Htwe, organized a coordination meeting for increasing preventive measures against the 2019 novel coronavirus in hospitals across Yangon Region at the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, yesterday morning.
Dr Myint Htwe said it is important to carefully monitor international travelers entering Myanmar and to respond early to suspected symptoms even if they were not present during inspection upon arrival. He said transferring patients and separating them into different rooms must be done with strict adherence to regulations.

The Second Amyotha Hluttaw convened its 1st day meeting of 15th regular session yesterday, with an opening speech of Speaker Mahn Win Khaing Than, urging the MPs to perform the works of respective committees in line with laws, bylaws and regulations and the requirements of checks and balances on administrative and legislative estates, in addition to regular functions of the Hluttaw.
MP Dr Win Myint from Bago Region constituency 11 asked for promoting a basic education middle(branch) school to a middle school level in Kantharyar Village of Minhla Township.

In his opening remark, U T Khun Myat said the MPs to have better views and opinions for the future Union through mutual respects and understanding in friendly discussions as the term of second Hluttaws is about to reach four-year anniversary in coming days, expecting cooperation in respective duties in line with relevant laws and bylaws.

UNION Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye received US$10,000 donated by Japanese Kyoshin Company for the Mandalay School for the Deaf yesterday.
The company has already donated 22 times to the school which is operated by the ministry.
At the donation ceremony, the Union Minister said his office is cooperating with the public, civil societies, international organizations and partner countries in providing assistance to the disabled persons.

A ceremony to conclude the108th Buddha Pujaniya festival of Sule Pagoda was held, with a rice donation ceremony, at the pagoda in Yangon yesterday.
First, the congregation including members of the pagoda’s board of trustees and well-wishers received the Five Precepts from State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee member Sayadaw Thanlyin Min Kyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Daja Bhaddanta Candima Bhivumsa, and listened to the Parittas recited by Members of Sangha.
