BORDER trade between Myanmar and Thailand totaled some US$818.72 billion, as of 20 December, 2019, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The country’s exports to neighbouring Thailand reached $558.64 million, while imports were valued at $260.08 million.
The current trade figures increased by over $112.88 million against the same period last year. Last year, border trade between the two nations was $705.84 million.

THE Surbung airport in Falam Township, which would be the first major airport in Chin State, will be opened at the end of May, according to the state’s Ministry of Road and Transport.
The Surbung airport will be equipped to handle ATR72 planes. The construction of the airport was started in the 2015- 2016 fiscal year (FY).
Out of the 7 states in the country, Chin State is the only state without air transportation because of its difficult topography. Now, an airport will open in Falam soon.

THE final day of the 2020 New Year Dhamma ceremony took place yesterday evening at the People’s Park, near the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, with Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ashin Nyanissara delivering a sermon.
Among the congregation were Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and his wife, Speaker of Yangon Region Hluttaw U Tin Maung Tun, and Deputy Speaker U Lin Naing Myint, members of the Yangon Region cabinet, and departmental officials.
The last event of the three-day Dhamma ceremony attracted over 100,000 people.

THE third Yangon Interna-tional Gems and Jewellery Fair 2020 will take place from 10 to 13 January at the Lotte Hotel.

THE Film Development Center will screen ‘Goodbye Dragon Inn’ film for analysis in its 33rd event of the Cinematheque Programme at its office No. 50, Shwe Taung Kyar Road (Golden Valley Road), Bahan Township, at 12 noon on 5 January.
The Taiwanese drama film was created by Director Tsai Ming-liang in 2003, and the film won several awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the 60th Venice International Film Festival, It was also one of the 10 greatest films of 2012 Sight & Sound Directors’ Poll.
