ARMED terrorists have been launching attacks by using residential homes and administrative buildings in towns and villages as cover, where they have forcibly settled. They aim to shield themselves from Tatmadaw counterattacks while also persuading temporarily displaced persons to return to their native areas and recruiting new members. That enables terrorists to use civilians as human shields. Tatmadaw is committed to safeguarding the sovereignty of the State and will respond to these threats based on intelligence and prevailing conditions. Therefore, residents in areas where terrorists have taken control must prioritize their safety and protect themselves from being exploited by these groups.

“TODAY, I would like to address the ongoing flooding and relief efforts following the recent Cyclone Yagi and a low-pressure depression in the Bay of Bengal. Early warnings about the developing low-pressure area were issued on 29 August. Subsequently, from 9 September, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology issued widespread alerts regarding the risk of heavy rainfall and landslides in central Myanmar due to Cyclone Yagi’s rapid movement in the South China Sea. On the night of 9 September, heavy rainfall — approximately 11 inches — near Tatkon Township in Nay Pyi Taw led to significant flooding in local creeks and villages. This flooding damaged roads, bridges, and residential areas. Affected areas included 56 townships in Kayah State, Kayin State, Bago Region, Magway Region, Mandalay Region, Mon State, Shan State, Ayeyawady Region, and Nay Pyi Taw.

The government has been actively working to repatriate Myanmar nationals facing hardships overseas. By collaborating closely with the Myanmar consulate-general and relevant foreign embassies, authorities are striving to ensure the safe return of citizens who are encountering difficulties abroad. The Myanmar Embassy in Cairo communicated with the authorities of the Kurdistan Regional Government by sending diplomatic letters and cooperating with the SEED Organization to repatriate Chin national Lal Lawm Tluangi and Rakhine national Ma Sandi Lin, who faced difficulties in Erbil of Iraq with all due speed. They got exit permits and arrived back in Yangon at 11:30 am on 14 September on the Erbil-Istanbul-Bangkok-Yangon flight.

Due to the severe flood that occurred in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Mandalay and Bago regions, Kayah, Kayin, Mon, and Shan states, more than 187 temporary relief camps were opened. A total of 59,413 households with 236,649 individuals from 37 townships were accommodated at 187 relief camps as of 13 September.
